Tomato saaru
Ingredients:
- Toor dal - 1 cup
- Tomatoes - 3, diced
- Green Chilli - 1, Sliced in half lenghtwise
- Water - 4 cups
- Salt - to taste
- Jaggery - 2 tbsp (or 1 inch cube)
- Tamarind - 2tbsp (or 1 inch cube)
- Rasam powder - 2tbsp
Seasoning
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - few
- Asafoetida (hing) - a pinch
Method:
- Wash the toor dal. Put in instant pot (IP).
- Add 4 cups of water to it.
- Split the green chilli vertically in half and add it to the IP.
- Dice the fresh tomatoes and add it to the IP.
- Add the jaggery, tamarind, salt, rasam powder to the IP.
- Stir everything.
- Run the instant pot on manual - high pressure - for 25mins.
- Let pressure release naturally (~ about 25mins)
Seasoning
- Once the pressure is released, open the IP.
- In a seasoning pan, heat the oil.
- Once the oil heats up, add the mustard seeds.
- When the mustard seeds start sputtering, add the curry leaves and asafoetida.
- Turn off the heat when the curry leaves brown (about a min).
- Add the seasoning to the IP. Stir.
Serve with rice, ghee, potato chips and [[Beans palya]]
