Alternate Ingredients

Instead of bell pepper, you can use any one of the below ingredients

  • Green Onions
  • Mangalore cucumber (Sauthekayi)
  • Okra

Ingredients

  • Capsicum (Bell Pepper) - Finely Chopped - 3 cups
  • Coconut oil - 1 Tbsp
  • Grated coconut - 3/4 cup
  • Mustard seeds - 1 Tsp
  • Dried red chillies - 2
  • Tamarind - quarter sized
  • Salt to taste

Seasoning

  • Coconut oil - 1 Tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1tsp
  • Split Blackgram (urad) dal - 1 Tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • asafoetida (hing) - a pinch

Method

  1. Saute/ lightly fry the chopped vegetables in 1 Tbsp of oil. Keep aside
  2. In a blender, grind the grated coconut, red chillies, mustard seeds, salt and tamarind to make a ground paste.
  3. Move the paste into a wide bowl. Mix in the sauteed vegetable with this paste.
  4. In a tempering pan, heat the oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves.
  5. When the mustard seeds start to splutter, add the pinch of hing.
  6. Pour this mixture over the paste in the wide bowl.

Mix and serve with hot rice.
