Palakura pappu (Spinach dal)
Ingredients:
- Spinach, washed and shredded - 1 bunch
- Toor dal - 1 cup
- Tomato - chopped - 1
- Onion - chopped - 1
- Chilli powder - 1 tsp or
- Green chillies - 3
- Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
- Tamarind - a quarter size
- water - 1 glass
For Seasoning:
- 1 tablespoon oil or ghee
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp chana dal
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1 dried red chilli pieces
- ¼ tsp curry leaves
- ¼ tsp hing
Method:
- Pressure cook the spinach, toor dal, tomato, onion along with chilli powder, turmeric and some water.
- Heat the oil in a tempering pan and lightly fry the seasoning ingredients - mustard seeds,cumin seeds, minced garlic, chana dal, urad dal, dried red chilli, curry leaves and hing.
- When the mustard seeds start sputtering, pour the seasoning over the cooked dal and mix well.
