Hasi Masala Sambar

My mom's hurli chutney

Ingredients

  • Chopped vegetables - 2 cups

  • Toor dal - 1 cup

  • Tamarind - quarter size

  • Jaggery - small piece

  • Salt to taste

  • Coriander seeds (dhaniya) - 2 tsp

  • Cumin seeds (jeera) - 1/2 tsp

  • Dried whole red chillies - 1

  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup

  • Water - as required

Method

  1. Boil the vegetables along with the dal and tamarind.
  2. In a grinder, grind the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, dried chillies and coconut with just a little water.
  3. Add the boiled dal with vegetables, jaggery, salt and the ground paste to a pot with a little water and boil well.
