Chutney powder

My mom's chutney powder


  • Horsegram seeds - 1 cup
  • Tamarind - quarter size ball
  • Dried whole red chillies - 2
  • Asafoetida - 1 spoon
  • Coconut oil - 1 Tbsp
  • Salt to taste


  1. In a flat pan, warm the oil.
  2. Roast the horsegram seeds, tamarind, chillies.
  3. Add a little more oil to the mixture and add the asafoetida.
  4. Take off heat. Once cool, use a grinder to grind into a rough powder.
  5. Store in an airtight container, in a cool dark place.
